Remember the video game Sleeping Dogs, detective Wei Shen roaming in an open-world adventure game set in Hong Kong, the one that didn’t get the sequel we wanted, well it might be getting a movie instead. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the Square Enix title even has Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) signed on to play the lead. And we understand producer Neal Moritz (I Am Legend) and Original Films, are working on an adaptation of the game.

After a prolonged development that took 4 years, the successful video game sold almost 2 million copies in it’s run. The intended successor Triad Wars was was canceled mid-development in 2015, and nothing else came to the rescue.  Eventually the original developer folded shop. Hopfully the movie adaptation will experience a better fate than the Triad. I’m also hoping they bring back the A level casting used in Sleeping Dogs.  The group included the now Academy Award winner Emma Stone, Lucy Liu, and Tom Wilinson.

So is Shen going to have the option to commit some crimes of his own (as in the game).  With all video game movies you have to wonder how close to the original the story will be. We here the Uncharted Movie Won’t Be Too Faithful To Original No word on a possible release date for the film,. Also no word on the title of this possible movie.I think a subtitle will definitely be required, as there are at least two major motion pictures with the same title Sleeping Dogs.
