According to The Motley Fool the recent release of Borderlands 3 has smashed records for Take-Two‘s video game developer 2K. The action role-playing first-person shooter sold 5 million copies in five days! This popularity drove the title to sell 50% better than its predecessor Borderlands 2. Also according to the Fool the well received title is “showing growth in popularity and revenue, hitting $1 billion in revenue for the franchise.” In addition to that sales for Windows version were the highest for any 2K title to date, and more than 70% of all purchases were made through digital distribution. With these sales, the total Borderlands franchise has made more than $1 billion (US) in revenue .
Borderlands 3 was released on September 13th 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A Google Stadia version has been confirmed but no date has been given yet.
While that is impressive it is certainly no match for the king pin in Take-Two’s portfolio – Grand Theft Auto. The largest franchise has sold 290 million units. 110 million of those units sold from the 2013 release of Grand Theft Auto 5. The next release of GTA, will arrive in 2022.
