Marvel announced a new comic book series based in the Insomniac Spider-Man universe. The news came from the New York Comic Con, where Marvel announced Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Black Cat Strikes. The video game based book will be a five-issue limited series comic based within Insomniac Games’ PS4 exclusive that released last year. Both gamers and web slinger fans (and myself) gave the game very high critical-acclaim. Over 13 million copies have been sold according to PlayStation.
“Following the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Velocity and City at War, Spider-Man now finds himself in the middle of a gang war in New York City,” reads an official pitch of the comic. “But as he butts heads with the likes of Hammerhead and the Maggia, the unexpected reappearance of old flame Felicia Hardy AKA the Black Cat sets Spider-Man’s world on fire!”
While we are intrigued our expectations aren’t super high. Comics based on video games or their characters are not new, and they are rarely great – but sometimes can entertaining
The comic featuring Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat is being written by Dennis “Hopeless” Hallum, and features art by Lucas Maresca. We don’t have a release date yet but the window sounds like sometime early next year – possibly January.
